How to embroider using a Dremel
Some weeks ago I was invited to join Dremel Chile as a partner to the brand (a sort of ambassador) and it's been a fascinating experience for my textile practice. For many years I've tried different ways of punching or perforating cardboard for achieving an embroiderable surface but I never dared for harder materials because I was doing the task only by hand. As a brand partner I will be able to try different tools and explore the possibilities they can offer to my embroidery work.
The first tool I've tried is the Dremel 3000 + flex shaft using different drill bits on this hard cardboard. Result: 7400 holes in all. Then I stitched some of the holes with wool yarn and cotton perlé thread.
But what is going to be really exciting is participating as a judge to the Dremelizate competition which is looking for the Chilean Dremel Master. Hace algunas semanas me invitaron a participar de Dremel Chile como partner de la marca (algo así como un embajador) y la experiencia ha resultado ser fascinante para mi práctica textil. Por muchos años me he dedicado a perforar y calar cartones para obtener superficies bordables pero nunca me animé con materiales rígidos ya que hacía todo a mano. Como partner de la marca puedo probar distintas herramientas y explorar las posibilidades que pueden ofrecerle a mi trabajo de bordado.
La primera herramienta que he probado es el Dremel 3000 + eje flexible con distintas brocas sobre este cartón duro. Resultado: 7400 hoyitos en total. Luego bordé a través de algunos hoyitos con lana y algodón perlé.
Pero lo que va ser realmente divertido será participar como jurado del concurso Dremelizate que está buscando al Dremel Master de Chile. Si tienes un Dremel y quieres entrar en el concurso, tienes que hacer un video de ti trabajando con la herramienta y demostrando tus habilidades con ella.
