Coming back to embroidering

Fringe embroidery on linen
Fringe embroidery - Process and finished
Fringe embroidery - Pressing and wrong side

My blog was silent for a whole year. My Instagram account didn't see any posting for almost seven months. I missed many comments and messages.

The ugly reason: I've been struggling with chronic neck pain for years—too much embroidering? Poor posture? Probably... These last months have been really rough and painful for me. I couldn't do much, even making the bed or trying to open a bottom drawer would hurt. Physical therapy and medication have put me back together so I'm able to sit down and embroider again.

So the image of this new embroidery is a victory, a celebration, though I still have a long way until full recovery.

The lovely reason behind my absence: After much waiting and lots of back and forth trips, I finally relocated to Chicago where I'm now living with my husband. During this last time I've been focused on enjoying my new home and this city (as much as the past winter and the pandemic have allowed).

I was eager to resume embroidering, especially now during lockdown. I needed, just as many others are doing during these times, to heal, wait, and keep the faith and sanity through crafting. I started this pile stitch embroidery just to play with floss, just to indulge in something very tactile, just to bear testimony to what this time has been.
