KIREEI Magazine | La mirada de Gulliver
This is a bit of belated news but it was only this past weekend that I got to see issue 6 of Spanish KIREEI magazine. Some months ago, editor Cris Camarena invited me to write an article about my own work and all things related–my beginnings, ideas, projects, dreams. Cris trusted in me and just said write whatever you feel like. Yes, daunting at first but then I was so grateful to be given that space of time and paper to reflect on what I love to do.
Here's a short paragraph for you to read:
“There's something in the scale of embroidery that makes it especially challenging. The miniature size of the stitches, the fineness of the needle and floss put our vision sharpness and fingers precision to the test. Some times we are even forced to work with a magnifying glass–that's how small and important are all the decisions made at each stitch. The shift of scales between the real space and the space of the embroidery pushes the embroideress in a constant back and forth swing between both dimensions. It's the gaze of Gulliver over a tiny textile world that grows after each stroke of the needle.”

Aunque esta noticia ya está algo atrasada, no fue hasta este fin de semana que pude ver el número 6 de la revista española KIREEI. Hace algunos meses, su editora Cris Camarena me invitó a escribir un artículo sobre mi propio trabajo y todo lo que se le relaciona: mis comienzos, ideas, proyectos, sueños. Cris confió totalmente en mí y me dijo que escribiera lo que quisiera. Bastante intimidante al principio pero luego estaba tan agradecida por este espacio de tiempo y papel para reflexionar sobre lo que adoro hacer.
Aquí va un pequeño párrafo para que leas:
«Hay algo en la escala del bordado que lo hace especialmente desafiante. El tamaño reducido de las puntadas, la finura de la aguja y de los hilados ponen a prueba la agudeza de los ojos y la precisión de las manos. A veces, incluso, obliga a trabajar con lupa; así de pequeñas e importantes son las decisiones que se toman a cada puntada. Este cambio de escala entre el espacio real y el del bordado lleva a la bordadora a un constante viaje de ida y vuelta entre ambas dimensiones. Es la mirada de Gulliver sobre un diminuto mundo textil que crece tras cada pasada la aguja».
