Copihues copihues
The copihue flower (Chilean bellflower) grows in the southern rain forests of Chile, climbing and twining among trees and shrubs. Chile's national flower now is a rare plant but ubiquitous in local souvenirs and handicrafts. I worked on a series of copihue patterns that have a modern feel to it and that you'd pride yourself of having around at home. A cheerful motif in bright colours that reminds you of this country's friendly and sunny character, but that's still a bit shy and discreet, just like copihues.

La flor copihue (Lapageria rosea) crece en los bosques lluviosos del sur de Chile, escalando y enredándose alrededor de árboles y arbustos. La flor nacional de Chile es hoy una planta escasa pero omnipresente en los souvenirs y artesanías locales. Trabajé en una serie de estampados que tuvieran un tono contemporáneo y de los que te jactarías de tener en casa. Un diseño alegre y en colores brillantes que recuerde el carácter amistoso y vivaz de este país, pero que a la vez es algo tímido y discreto, tal como los copihues.
