Paper Embroidery Kits – Leaf Stitch

Do you know the sound of embroidery? That whisper of the needle and thread passing through the fabric and that feels so delightful to the ears. When the fabric is taut in the hoop—or like in this case when you use cardboard—the thread or the needle will create a subtle purring that can be mesmerizing. And what about the soft clack of the scissors? It depends on the model, sure, but it's also so satisfying to feel.

I'm always looking for new surfaces to embroider on whether they are fabrics, paper, cardboard, or bamboo sheets, so when Joone Creative invited me to create an embroidery kit for their collection, I was so excited when they suggested I worked on cardboard.

I chose the leaf stitch technique—the same I'd used in these coasters—and simplified the process of stitching on rug canvas by punching a cardboard surface with the exact holes needed for making one leaf. Also, I changed the yarn for embroidery floss for extra sheen.

The result? A beautifully embellished pencil case that can be stitched according to your own skills level (shown here is the advanced pattern). Each kit comes in three levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) so you can create something beautiful no matter if you're starting out, have limited time for crafting, or are a more experienced stitcher.
